Terms and Licenses

Cannons & Coastlines is made by Joshua Bemenderfer. These terms cover the free base game, the paid add-on models, and this website (including the web game). If anything here is unclear, or you want to do something these terms don't allow, just email josh@thederf.com. I'm pretty reasonable.

The free base game

The free files (the base-set STLs, the rulebook, the faction cards, and everything in the GitHub repository) are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0). In short, you can:

  • Print them, play with them and share them with anyone.
  • Remix them and share your remixes.

As long as you:

  • Credit Cannons & Coastlines and link back here.
  • Don't use them commercially. Selling the files, or selling prints of them, counts as commercial use.
  • Share any remixes under the same license.

The license text linked above is the one that actually applies. This is just the summary.

The add-on fleets you buy on this site are not under the Creative Commons license. When you buy one, you get a personal license to use it.

You can:

  • Download the files and keep them, including updated versions when the models change.
  • Print as many copies as you like for yourself, your family and friends, and your own game group, club or classroom.
  • Modify the files for your own prints (resize them, fix fit, add a flag holder, and so on).
  • Post photos and videos of your prints. Please do, actually.

You can't:

  • Share, upload or give away the files, or your download link, to anyone else. That includes modified versions.
  • Publish remixes or derivatives of the models, for example on Printables, Thingiverse, MakerWorld or similar sites.
  • Sell the files, or sell prints made from them.
  • Use the models in another product, game or kit.

The license is non-exclusive and non-transferable, and it only covers the person who bought it. I keep all rights to the models. If you break these terms, the license ends and you'll need to delete your copies.

Want to do more? If you'd like to sell prints, bundle the fleets with something, publish a remix, or reproduce the models some other way, email josh@thederf.com. I'm happy to work out terms for that.

Buying

Payments are handled by Stripe. Your download link is tied to your purchase, so please keep it to yourself. If a download doesn't work or a file is broken, email me and I'll sort it out.

Printing and playing safely

The pieces are small and the cannons fire small projectiles. The game is meant for ages 10 and up, and younger kids should play with an adult around. Don't aim at people's faces (or pets). You print the parts yourself, so how well they turn out depends on your printer, material and settings.

The website and the web game

  • The site and the web game are provided as they are, and may change or go offline at any time.
  • In online games, keep player names and game names decent. I may remove games or names that aren't.
  • Don't try to break, overload or cheat the game server.

"Cannons & Coastlines", the logo and the faction names are mine. You can use them to talk about the game, review it, or label your own prints and remixes of the free files. Just don't present your own products as official.

No warranty

Everything here is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, I'm not liable for any damages that come from using the files, the prints, the website or the web game.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, United States.

Changes

If these terms change, I'll update the date at the top. Changes don't take away rights you already have for a model you bought.
